I have no idea if it started on TikTok or a different platform, but I can’t scroll any social media page or hangout with friends without hearing about air fryers. Just the other day my personal trainer was telling me about cauliflower he made in the air fryer. On TikTok I find countless air fryer recipes and on Instagram I watch my favorite wellness influencer review air fryers. So what’s all the fuss about? And should we all start buying air fryers?
What is an air fryer?
In short, an air fryer is a small convection oven that mimics deep frying.
What are the benefits?
Fact: fried food can increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. By utilizing an air fryers, you can get the same texture and taste of fried foods without the unhealthiness. It reduces the amount of trans and saturated fats in food and preserves the nutrients.
The main difference: oil. Deep fried calls for food to be submerged into oil. Whereas, air frying you use heat and a fan to evenly cook food with just enough oil so your food doesn’t stick.
Dietitian Ella Davar told HuffPost:
“When cooked with convection heat, resistant starches in sweet potatoes, yams, corn, beans and legumes are easier to digest for most people and therefore improve the bioavailability of nutrients.”
The great thing about air fryers is you can add in fruits, vegetables, and meats. You can use different spices, make dips and create the crunchy texture of your desires.
So are you gonna cop?
