Finding out that the 2020 Olympics were postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic was devastating to Tokyo, athletes and sports fans all over. The opening ceremonies were actually supposed to start on July 24 but will now take place exactly one year later, on July 24, 2021. To help mitigate the sadness and deprivation of sports, Airbnb is hosting an Olympian and Paralympian summer festival that will last from July 24 to July 29.
All activities are run by Airbnb Experiences and hosted by veterans or incoming Olympians and Paralympians through Zoom. There will be workouts, cooking classes, and lectures from athletes. Since these are hosted by top athletes and Aibnb is looking to make a sale, each experience costs $25. Bookings are open and all proceeds go to the athletes hosting the events.
“Guests will be able to connect and interact with some of the most elite competitors within the Olympic and Paralympic Movement, giving them even more reasons to cheer them on next year,” Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia said in a statement.
