Amazon has opened the first hair salon that uses augmented reality technology to enable customers to try on different hairstyles which enables you to try before you buy. With the launch of a new hair salon in London, Amazon is expanding its offerings.
Last week, the company announced the launch of Amazon Salon, a 1,500 square foot room on Brushfield Street in London’s Spitalfields. The high-tech salon will feature virtual reality hair consultations and point-and-learn technology, among other features. Customers will try on various hair colors using augmented reality before making the changes in the real world. Salon clients can learn more about show items by scanning a QR code with their smartphone using the point-and-learn technology.
The UK Country Manager of Amazon shared:
“We have designed this salon for customers to come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products and stylists in the industry. We want this unique venue to bring us one step closer to customers, and it will be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies.”
The company shared more information about the initiative on their blog:
“At Amazon Salon, customers will be able to experiment with different virtual hair colours using augmented reality technology, enjoy entertainment on Fire tablets at each styling station and capture their new look in a dedicated creative area.
Showcasing a selection of best selling professional hair care products, the salon will also test new point-and-learn technology, where customers can simply point at the product they are interested in on a display shelf and the relevant information, including brand videos and educational content, will appear on a display screen. To order the products, customers can scan the relevant QR code on the shelf to visit the product detail page on Amazon.co.uk and purchase, with delivery direct to their home.
Amazon Salon will initially be open to Amazon employees only, before it opens to bookings for the general public in the coming weeks. This will be an experiential venue where we showcase new products and technology, and there are no current plans to open any other Amazon Salon locations.”
Amazon Salon’s opening comes on the heels of Amazon’s Professional Beauty Store, which provides a wide range of wholesale items for hair and beauty businesses on its UK site. We are surely stepping into the future of barbershop experiences with this new development, and perhaps we can forever say goodbye to “bad hair days” and “bad haircuts.”
