“Gilded Glamor.”

The 2022 Met Gala theme has been revealed by Anna Wintour. With this year’s Met Gala, Anna Wintour will take no prisoners. Apparently terrified at the sight of A$AP Rocky turning up to her precious red carpet in a quilted grandma’s blanket, and Frank Ocean arriving in a cap, the world’s most famous and coveted magazine editor has finally decreed the fundraiser’s 2022 theme: Gilded Glamour.

On her Twitter, Vanessa Friedman shared: “Scoop: and the next Met Gala celeb co-chairs are…Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Honorary chairs Tom Ford, Instagram’s Adam Moressi and Anna Wintour. Theme is “Gilded Glamour.” Point is: this one is going to be very dressed-up indeed.”

Wintour, accompanied by this year’s co-hosts Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, is expecting glamor, pizzazz, and gold, much to the disappointment of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (who would probably prefer if the annual event had been changed into a soup kitchen). Wintour will serve as an honorary co-chair alongside Tom Ford and Instagram’s Adam Moressi, in addition to her roles as editor-in-chief, artistic director, global chief content officer, and global editorial director at Condé Nast.

Setting a theme for the Met Gala is, of course, more of a suggestion than a requirement, with most attendees using as much creativity as it takes to scroll through Vogue Runway. Celebrities will be able to choose among golden gowns by Schiaparelli, Area, Louis Vuitton, and Moschino from recent shows, while stylists will sure likely be vying for the gigantic, pleated-metallic dress from Balenciaga’s SS20 collection. And for those few visitors who bother to copy and paste the theme into Google, a reference point may emerge in the Gilded Age clothing – all corsets, long-boned bodices, opera gloves, hourglass silhouettes, and décolleté-cuts – which defined an era of rapid economic growth in the United States from 1870 to 1900.

The 2022 Met Gala will take place in New York City on Monday, May 2nd. It marks the conclusion of the second section of a two-part Costume Institute exhibition. The first, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, debuted on September 18 and was preceded by the 2021 Met Gala, which took place on September 13.

Vogue livestreamed the Met Gala on its website last year, starting at 5:30 p.m. EST. Keke Palmer, an actor and recording artist, and Ilana Glazer, an actor, writer, and director, hosted the coverage, interviewing attendees as they arrived on the Met Gala red carpet. For the first time in 2022, fashion enthusiasts may watch all of the action on Vogue‘s livestream.
