Yes, you heard right, Apple now sells a $19 Polishing Cloth to keep your screens looking nice. What’s an extra $19 for a special Apple polishing cloth to clean the screen if you’re spending over $1,000 on an iPhone or $6,000 on a new Mac anyway right?
For every Apple display, including nano-texture glass, Apple will begin selling a special Polishing Cloth. Described on the website as:
“Made with soft, nonabrasive material, the Polishing Cloth cleans any Apple display, including nano-texture glass, safely and effectively.”
The unexpected reveal
After its major “Unleashed event, where Apple debuted a new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, the new Apple Silicon M1 Pro and M1 Max CPUs, and its new AirPods, Apple began selling the Apple-branded “Polishing Cloth.”
Despite the fact that the fabric didn’t make an appearance at the conference, its $19 price tag drew the attention of many tech watchers. When it comes to cleaning the screens on Apple products though, Apple has some very strict guidelines. Only a “soft, lint-free cloth” should be used to clean them, not paper towels or abrasive cloths. Of course, when you’re paying so much for a device, you better take care of it in the best way possible.
Now that the company has created its own cloth, this criteria is met by the Apple fabric, which has an Apple logo in the corner and is suitable for nano-texture glass. “Made of soft, nonabrasive material, the Polishing Cloth safely and effectively cleans any Apple display, even nano-texture glass,” Apple claims on the product page.
While the price of the material has been mocked, we shouldn’t be too quick to judge. With the $6,000 Apple Pro Display XDR and iMacs, Apple offers an Apple-branded black cloth with nano-texture glass screens. It advises only using the Apple-supplied cloth to clean the screens of these devices. For now, new cloths could only be obtained by contacting Apple customer service. Even individuals who purchased Apple gadgets for less than $6,000 can now purchase one individually.
Compatibility
Apple iPhone, iPad, Macs, Apple Watch, iPod, and the Pro Display XDR are all on Apple’s “compatibility” list for the Polishing Cloth. To put it another way, every Apple gadget with a screen can benefit from being polished with this special cloth.
If you want to purchase the Apple Polishing Cloth, head over to their website and snag one before they’re all gone (apparently, there’s now a limited quantity).
