Fans are calling on Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Entertainment to remove Amber Heard from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The ongoing defamation trial involving Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has had many negative repercussions. Depp has already been removed from the Pirates of the Caribbean and Fantastic Beasts franchises. Many of his fans believe his removal was unjust, while Amber Heard remains onboard the Aquaman franchise.

Millions of movie theater patrons — 3,461,996, as of May 4 — have signed a petition and want Amber Heard cut from the Aquaman sequel. The creator of the petition, Jeanne Larson, summarized the domestic abuse of Johnny Depp and cited the domestic abuse of Heard’s former domestic partner Tasya Van Ree in 2009.

“As Amber Heard is a known and proven domestic abuser, Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment should and must remove Heard from their Aquaman 2 film project. They must not ignore the suffering of Heard’s victims, and must not glamorize a domestic abuser.

Men are victims of domestic abuse, just like women. This must be recognized, and action must be taken to prevent a known abuser from being celebrated within the entertainment industry.

Do the right thing. Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2.”

WBD is quick to remove liabilities. They’ve recently halted all projects involving Ezra Miller after their arrests and (what feels like constant) aggressive behavior in Hawaii. This includes the projects that involve DC’s Flash and the Wizarding World’s Credence Barebone/Aurelius Dumbledore. While quick to stop Miller’s roles and recast Depp in the most recent installment of Fantastic Beasts, it seems like they are taking their sweet time with Amber Heard.

The first Aquaman film was a blockbuster hit, and is one of the few films that has earned more than $1 billion at the box office. It’s unlikely that Heard will be removed from the film because it wrapped in December 2021 and is set to release on March 17, 2023. However, reports are stating that her starring role is actively being cut as the outcry gains steam. It’s now down to 10 minutes.

Removing Heard from this role has been a topic of conversation since as early as 2019. The subject has since been brought back into the limelight because of the current court trial and its constant appearance in the news cycle. Although Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Entertainment have yet to make a formal announcement about Heard’s employment status, many fans have continued to petition against her and have suggested Game of Thrones actor Emilia Clarke as a replacement.
