As artists and creatives, we often overlook opportunities that are just under our nose. Because we don’t want that to happen to you, and due to the major hit that the arts sector is having to currently survive and navigate, we bring you the best opportunities that August has to offer. The following paid opportunities for independent artists and cultural organizations are not to be missed.

 

Downtown Brooklyn Public Art and Placemaking Fund

This fund awards grants of up to $50,000 for public art and performance projects, as well as improvements to cultural spaces that connect neighborhoods, revitalize public spaces, and increase access to cultural programming. There is an application fee of $10 but you can contact [email protected]rooklyn.com if this creates a barrier to applying.

Brooklyn Arts Council 2021 Community Arts Grants

Artists and collectives are eligible to apply for up to $5,000 to support artistic or cultural projects in Brooklyn in 2021. Webinars are mandatory for applications.

Deadline: September 11, 2020 

 

Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Manhattan Arts Grants

This grant is given through three different programs: Manhattan-based artists, art groups, or community-focused organizations. Each can apply for up to $10,000 to develop and share diverse artistic experiences with the public.

Deadline: September 29, 2020 

 

Pioneer Works 2021 Residencies

Applications for 2021 Visual Arts, Music, Technology, and Narrative Arts Residencies will open on September 1, 2020. This residency is perfect for artists working outside of the norms of their artistic field. Selected candidates will have access to Pioneer Works’s facilities in a collaborative environment in Red Hook.

Women’s Studio Workshop Artist’s Book Residency

For six to eight weeks, artists will spend time working on their own limited edition book works. This residency, which takes place in upstate New York, offers a stipend of $350/week as well as up to $750 for materials and 24/7 studio access.

Red Bull Arts Microgrant Program

Red Bull Arts’ adapted microgrant program will award two $1,000 grants every month to artists in 20 cities across the United States. These funds are meant to support artists in continuing their work in whatever way they see fit during difficult moments.
