A lot of people may be averse to the idea of baths, as soaking is not everyone’s cup of tea. But, for the past couple of months, I’ve taken a lot of comfort in the idea of being enveloped by warmth, while also allowing my body to be cleansed and feeling relaxed. This is why baths are the bomb. It is not only a personal opinion of mine, but apparently, scientists are urging people to bathe often. Here are the scientific proofs and benefits of taking baths:
Improving heart health
Believe or not, bathing is actually great for your heart. Taking a warm bath will make your heart beat faster, mimicking a work out. You heard that right: you can sit and relax in the bath while getting the same benefits as a workout. Now that’s what I call a win-win situation.
It will help you breathe easier
Immersing your body in water while having your head out exerts a great influence on your lung capacity and oxygen intake. The pressure of the water on your lungs as well as the temperature allow for easier breathing movements. The steam created by the warm water helps clear your sinuses and open up your airways. Bonus points if you add a few droplets of peppermint essential oil in there.
Your nervous system and brain will thank you
Being submerged in water is scientifically proven to reduce pain and inflammation, while simultaneously calming down the nervous system. That means your levels of stress will be reduced and your overall mood will improve. Don’t we all need that nowadays?
Your muscles, joints, and bones will heal
You can do a lot in a bath. You can stretch, and move in the water. This has low impacts on the joints, muscles, and bones, but is extremely effective in providing an appropriate workout through resistance.
Improving immunity
This is one of the best benefits! A warm bath not only helps your blood flow easier, but it also makes it more oxygenated (by allowing you to breathe deeper and slower) hence helping strengthen your immune system.
Moisturizing your skin, hair, and eyes
And if you weren’t sold yet, exposure to fluid through bathing and steaming is the best way to ensure that your body and skin is hydrated in all aspects. Soaking in water is extremely beneficial. Adding certain oils and bath bombs is a great way to enhance the experience both for relaxation purposes and for your skin.
