The start of a new season always calls for a change in layout, and perhaps some Feng Shui-ing here and there. We are well into September and it seems that going back to the office is not happening anytime soon. So, take a little time and consider these tips to pimp your living space.

Resort to Tonal Touches

If you want to create a relaxing atmosphere, playing with color is the best way to do it. Colors can signal relaxation, and actually help you unwind at the end of the day. Our recommendation is to keep your palette tonal, creating a soothing atmosphere specially tailored for relaxation.

Use Wood for a warm ambiance

Natural wood furniture and accents can do wonders for a room. The earthy feel will lend warmth and coziness to any room or space in your home. Get a wooden bedside table, or perhaps a low and deep-wood credenza that will elevate your space.

Get a new Duvet Cover and give your bed that cloud feel

Let’s be honest with ourselves, the best way to pimp out a room and create a soothing atmosphere is to have a comfy and warm (+ inviting) bed spread. The bedding is so important in this process. The idea is to create a bed situation that will make you not want to leave your bed, but once you do, you will be so excited to go back to it. Lighting, lighting, and some more lighting

Lighting is… of the essence! Creating mood lighting will literally be the most important thing in the process of creating a zen room environment. If you’re trying to wind down, the tiniest bit of harsh lighting will have the exact opposite effect, and we don’t want that. You need a warm-hued lamp to help ease you into relaxation mode. I personally have several lamps, each in a different place and for a specific mood: working, watching TV, or lounging. I recommend many warm-hued light sources to help you ease into any state.

Get a curtain

Those Brooklyn bare windows were great for the summer, but it’s time to freshen them up and perhaps give them some curtains for cozy wintery nights in. Curtains immediately make a room feel cozier, warmer, and more inviting. We are suckers for some good effortless curtains like these textured IKEA LEJONGAP linen curtains, which are the perfect balance of light and heavy but won’t overpower the space.

And last, decluttering! This is the singular most important aspect of having the perfect cozy and relaxing/blissed-out ambiance. You can use our Spring Guide to decluttering your closet for this endeavor. Good luck!
