“Thank you for everything you’ve done everything, everything, everything you’ve done for me!” —Lil B, “Best Mom Ever”
Don’t be fooled, rappers know a thing or two about love. Almost all of them have expressed their love for music, nice cars, making money, their squad, significant others and/or other musicians in one way or another. Rap stars are extra affectionate when it comes to their mothers, however.
I’ll always love my mama, is a sentiment felt by many hip-hop artists. Most rappers have used their music to articulate their feelings for their mothers and their grandmothers. They’ve credited the superwomen that have been everything from caregivers to bill-payers with nurturing and inspiring them.
Since the beginning of their careers, artists like Kanye West, Drake and Jay-Z have rapped about the values their mothers instilled in them and how those values have helped them navigate throughout life. J. Cole, Ghostface Killah, Rick Ross, YG and so many other rappers have delivered heartfelt tales expressing their appreciation for how the leading ladies in their lives have held them down through thick and thin. Rap artists have shown their gratitude for the life lessons and the tough love received from their mothers in a variety of ways. They’ve spoiled their mothers with love, as well as gifts like new drip, new whips and new cribs.
Hip-hop mogul Sean “Love” Combs gifted his mother a Bentley, as well as a check for $1 million for her 80th birthday last year.

For her 45th birthday, Jada Pinkett-Smith received a set of gold grills from her rapper son Jaden. This year, for Mother’s Day, the Red Table Talk host was treated to an unexpected performance by her daughter Willow and Jada’s former band Wicked Wisdom. (Who knew Jada was in a rock band?)
Rappers (and their singer sisters) love their mothers. They’ve shown that they’ll do anything to make the best moms ever smile and proud. Celebrate the best moms ever in your life this Mother’s Day! And check out this playlist we’ve put together for them.
