Why a Buzzcut is so liberating

Low maintenance, check.

We saw so many men growing out their hair this past year (for obvious reasons). From shoulder-length bobs to super-long styles that forced guys to tie their hair up into a bun, it was a great time for men everywhere to experiment with styles that were a little more laidback.

That being said, not everyone felt liberated by these WFH hairstyles. Growing your hair out and having it look good is a privilege that not many people have. The entire look is contingent on two main factors – hair density and hair texture. Many people stayed home, let their hair grow to an uncomfortable length, and had to throw on a hat every time they left the house. Now that we are starting to see a glimmer of hope with the COVID-19 vaccines rolling out, many people are looking to refresh their look for the upcoming summer season. Rather than the usual “high and tight” go-to that many people fall back on, more and more people are opting for the dramatic option, the buzzcut.

What’s with the drastic change? Well, I can only assume that it’s a reactive choice. For over a year, people have had to learn how to manage their hair in a way that didn’t inspire confidence. It was less about looking good but more so about making sure your hair was out of your way. So now instead of choosing a hairstyle that requires general maintenance, people just want to buzz it all off and be left with one less thing to think about this summer. And we’re all for it. If your friend needs a haircut, why not buzz it for them and make a few extra bucks on the side?
