If you aren’t familiar with the CBD beauty trend, CBD also known as cannabidiol, is a natural compound derived from the cannabis plant. CBD is one of the components in marijuana, however, by itself it does not create a “high.” Beauty brands are adapting CBD into their products believing in its natural restorative powers for all skin types.

The main buzz around CBD is its ability to reduce inflammation and restore the body naturally. When CBD makes contact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, one of many regulatory systems controlling mood, memory, stress, sleep and reproduction – it helps preserve, protect, and improve the skin. When CBD is applied to the skin it has the calming potential to curb anxiety, inflammation, and aging.

Although CBD is everywhere, did you know it hasn’t even been approved by the FDA? If CBD is derived from hemp it is legal, but if it is derived from the marijuana plant it is illegal unless the state has legalized weed. In fact, the exact dosage of CBD is unknown. Without the dosage, it is hard to tell how much is needed to be effective, and how deep the creams are penetrating. This becomes dangerous because if said CBD products are transdermal, instead of topical, it could potentially reach the brain. As beauty and grooming experts, we looked into the benefits of CBD and decided you could absorb the same benefits without CBD-branded products. Below are the top benefits of CBD and non-CDD product recommendations that achieve the same benefits.

1. Decreases redness and inflammation

Plenty of us suffer from redness– whether we just finished working out, are the focus of unwanted attention, or consume alcohol. Skin tends to get red when it is irritated. So how can we remedy this? Short answer: tiger grass, or centella asiatic, is an herb used in traditional Chinese medicine. Getting its name from tigers rolling in the herb to heal their wounds, tiger grass is known to correct uneven skin tone, in particular, redness. Opt out of CBD and try out the below tiger grass products that aim to nourish, calm and cure skin.

Dr. Jay Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment is made with sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium to improve moisture levels in skin and to restore fatigue skin to a dewy glow.

Fabric Honesty Face Wash is composed of sodium hyaluronate to enhance the look of dry or damaged skin and tiger grass to smooth and rejuvenate. This face wash will create squeaky clean skin and clear skin of redness.

2. Nourishes sensitive skin and locks in moisture

CBD is said to moisturize without clogging pores by stimulating collagen & the cells responsible for keeping skin firm and healthy. It also helps out pores by potentially decreasing excess oil production, which often triggers acne. Studies have shown rose oil to do the exact same thing. Rose oil is loaded with vitamins and antioxidants that moisturize and refine the skin. If you’re choosing the non-CBD route, all you need to do is look for products high in rose oil or Vitamin A.

Murad Sensitive Skin Soothing Serum relieves dehydrated skin with hyaluronic acid and chamomile extract to help soothe skin.

Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly not only will lock in moisture but it also filters out the bad pollutants that get stuck in the skin.

3. Ageless skin

To be honest, there is no way to stop aging. As we get older, our skin starts to thin, becomes more dry, and has less elasticity. As early as your mid-twenties, collagen and elastin production slows and eventually turns into fine lines and wrinkles. So although aging is inevitable, there are still amazing products that decrease the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamins A, C, and E are the only things proven to reduce wrinkles and the main ingredient in anti-aging creams. These vitamins help destroy free radicals before wrinkles even form while also boasting college production to firm skin. They also act as an exfoliator to renew the top-most layer of the skin, creating a youthful and brighter complexion. Below, find our favorite age correcting creams high in vitamins.

Drunk Elephant’s Virgin Marula Oil rich in Vitamin E, reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and improves elasticity.

SkinCeuticals Ce Ferulic has a combination of Vitamin C, E and ferulic acid to brighten the skin tone and leave you with a glow.
