As we pointed out last year during pandemic Cinco de Mayo, Cinco de Mayo has taken on a life of its own here in America. Some people celebrate Mexican culture and heritage on this day. Some people make a tradition out of consuming Mexican food stables such as tacos, burritos, guacamole and salsa on a day which is oftentimes mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day. Many people take advantage of the cheap eats, thanks to the holiday-themed discounts on food and alcoholic beverages.

Actually, a lot of people take advantage of those drink specials. So many cups and shots are consumed on Cinco de Mayo that alcohol sales from the unofficial holiday have outpaced sales made on St. Patrick’s Day and the Super Bowl. According to the Associated Press, sales of tequila in general have been on the rise over the last few years.

Tequila’s popularity has caught the eyes of analysts and bartenders, as well as celebrity investors and entrepreneurs. In 2013, George Clooney and a couple of partners got together to launch the tequila brand Casamigos. Their passion project soon paid off when Diageo purchased the company that the Academy Award-winning actor co-founded for more than $700 million. So basically move over Jose Cuervo, Don Julio, Patrón, Azul and all of the tequila brands out there.

There is a growing number of celebrity owned tequilas founded and funded by moguls in entertainment, international pop stars and iconic athletes. If you commemorate Cinco de Mayo with a drink, drink responsibly and pour up with these celebrity owned tequilas.
