Is Clubhouse the social app that will take over in 2021?

It’s invite-only policy makes us want it.

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a new audio-chat social platform on the rise, and rumor has it that it will sweep across and overshadow the social platforms we have today. The app we’re talking about is called Clubhouse, and you can access it solely by being invited to it. If you’ve heard of it, it’s probably because Elon Musk and Kanye West are using it.

The way it’s been described to me is by imagining a large Zoom call mixed with a podcast with several people, on topics of the user’s choice. You can listen into interviews, general discussions, and conversations about many different topics. The app was founded in March 2020, and was prominent for a while during the early days of the pandemic. But the app is beginning to gain more traction, especially with celebrities endorsing and using it.

Clubhouse is also exciting because it’s using the invite-only system: you can’t simply download it and create an account, but you have to instead be invited by a member. After being invited, you would be asked to select topics of interest, helping the app select conversation rooms for you.

I don’t know about you, but I really want to be invited to the app and see what the fuss is all about.
