After doing the big chop a couple years ago, I’ve been determined to perfect my natural hair routine. For many naturals, familiarizing yourself with your hair thickness, texture, porosity, and curl pattern can be a great foundation. Upon figuring out all these metrics, I’ve narrowed down wash day to five products: my shampoo and conditioner, a leave-in spray, a curl cream, and a moisturizing or shine cream.
The routine
It takes a little over an hour to wash and style my hair — which is a definite improvement to the two hours it originally took me after the big chop — but still quite time consuming. The biggest chunk of time is spent detangling my 4A curls. As a result, I’ve been on the hunt for a product that makes detangling more seamless. Enter: Coco & Eve Like a Virgin Hair Mask.
The life-saver
The nearly five-star Amazon reviewed product is packed with ingredients that will actually help repair your hair. The mask includes linseed and argan oil to tame frizz, coconut extract for a healthy scalp, and fig and shea butter that hydrate and reduce tangling.
The mask is also sulfate and paraben free. It has an incredible tropical smell that could double as a candle. Seriously, I sometimes leave the jar unopened when I run out of candles.
I have low porosity hair, which unfortunately means water, oils, and products don’t easily absorb into my hair. Instead, product tends to sit on the surface of my hair, rather than penetrating (read: hydrating) my roots and strands. With the help of the free tangle-taming hair brush that comes with each jar, I have a guarantee that the product will restore and moisturize my roots.
How to use
I use the Coco & Eve hair mask on combed-out, freshly washed hair and sleep with it overnight. The result is tangle-free curls and a shortened wash day. It is truly revolutionary.
After using the hair mask< for a couple weeks now, I can’t believe the difference it’s made on my dry, multi-textured curls. My hair is visibly more shiny, less damaged, and the most hydrated it’s ever been. Because the product does wonders on detangling, my curl pattern is also more defined — which is always my goal.
At $40 a jar, I understand the hesitation in splurging on hair care products. After all, not all products work for all hair types. But if you’re suffering from dull, damaged strands, Coco & Eve Like a Virgin Hair Mask, might just be the solution.
