Ryan Reynolds’ frustratingly empty update on ‘Deadpool 3’

Thanks for the crumbs, Ryan.

We’ve all wanted Deadpool 3 since before the end credits of Deadpool 2. While the merger between 20th Century Fox and Disney opened up the can of worms that is the X-Men, Marvel fans rejoiced, as this meant that Deadpool would finally be able to join the MCU (and possibly point out inaccuracies with his iconic sharp jabs).

When asked about the status of the highly anticipated threequel, Reynolds told Variety, “Plugging away. I can’t really comment right now. Hopefully soon, though.” However, Reynolds recently announced he will be taking a break from making movies for an undisclosed period of time, so the actor’s definition of “soon” is unclear.

Prior to announcing his hiatus, Reynolds revealed there’s a strong chance Deadpool 3 will go into production this year. “I’d say it’s 50/50 maybe?” he said when asked if filming would begin in 2022. “We’re really actively developing it and getting it into pretty good shape. What the hell month is it? August? Oh, next year? Probably pretty damn good. I’d say 70%.”

Reynolds also stated that he’s open to playing Deadpool in another MCU movie before Deadpool 3 arrives. “As long as Disney’s open to doing some[thing] pretty wildly divergent or having some wildly divergent uses of Deadpool then I dig it, man. I think it’s all great,” he noted.

Ryan Reynolds’ merc with a mouth will eventually become an official part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige said sisters Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux are hard at work on the script with Reynolds overseeing, but Deadpool 3 filming won’t begin until this year at the earliest.

“It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”

Although we don’t know the exact timeline for Deadpool’s arrival into the MCU, we can rest assured that the plans are underway.

In other Marvel news, the Secret Invasion series coming to Disney+ could finally tie in the X-Men.
