Why are we (the media) still reporting on Trump?

Aren’t we tired?

I’ve been doing my best not to follow the news. Sure, that might sound strange to some, but as a person of color, my mental health has been calling for it. But, as I’m sure you know, it’s easier said than done. Pretty much any platform will be discussing the latest on racism, abortion, equal rights, a potential war, and so much more. It’s really tricky to avoid it, and far too easy to get consumed, sucked in, and frustrated by it. The latter is how I feel after seeing Donald Trump in headlines the past 2-3 weeks.

I spent a week in Palm Beach over the summer and was shocked at how well-liked he was over there. I kept thinking, “Don’t people know his real colors, how he hates people of color, doesn’t believe in equal or human rights, is the biggest racist out there, and quite frankly has disrespected and shitted on women all over in his daily life? How could people possibly still be giving him credit? And how could the media, an industry I work in, grant him press? Why on Earth do we still care?”

For the uninformed, the FBI recently raided Donald Trump’s home and demanded tons of financials, emails, files, and, overall, truth from the man. Although this was a long time coming, and gave credit back to Hillary Clinton’s representation as she ended up being right, I don’t see a need for it to make headline after headline on every social media platform and outlet out there. I agree that I am happy justice seems to be on its way to being served, but what I don’t like is all the attention he has gotten his whole life, and is getting with this.

Although I don’t believe in violence or hatred, I’d love to personally live in a world where Agent Orange is iced out of society. I want to live in a world where we don’t care about him and that hopefully, what he does, does not harm or affect us. Why is that so hard? Or, better question, why does he make that so hard for us? I guess that lingering question is what keeps people coming after him. That and of course all the crimes, pain both emotionally and physically, he’s caused to women, people of color, minorities, immigrants, and the like.

The weight of the current news isn’t helpful for those struggling with anxiety. If that’s you, try using ASMR or changing some of your mindless habits to keep it at bay.
