Fact: 30 percent of the population experience dandruff. As gross as it might be, it is very common. But did you know you can also have dandruff on your face?
What is Facial Dandruff?
Dandruff — caused by excessive dryness or external factors, like weather — is basically white flakes that bring on itchiness, redness and occasional pain. Facial dandruff can be seen on the eyebrows, beard, nose, and ears. Dandruff can also result from seborrheic dermatitis, an inflammatory skin condition that causes flaking on the top layer of your skin – particularly in oil gland areas. This condition often increases with added yeast on the skin. It’s important to know that yeast is already on the skin but if it gets unbalanced by poor hygiene, stress, or hormones, dandruff will occur.
How to get rid of Facial Dandruff
As we shared, facial dandruff is caused by dryness and irritation, and seborrheic dermatitis. The best way to treat it is to decrease the amount of irritants you are applying to your face. Irritants can include fragrance, preservatives, alcohol and dyes. The second best way to treat it is to always apply moisturizer to your face. This will help to retain moisture and increase hydration.
For seborrheic dermatitis, you will need to work a little harder to rebalance the yeast on your skin. You can still use a moisturizer and avoid irritants, but you might want to invest in a special medicated product as well. We suggest a topical antifungal cream (zinc cleanser) to balance the yeast and decrease the inflammation.
