The Vault Art Space has officially been launched as Gucci‘s experimental online space, which has been a part of the house’s ongoing investigation of the art world, as well as its own journey into the Metaverse. The gallery aims to collect the forward-thinking visions of contemporary artists, and it was developed through a collaboration between Gucci and SuperRare, the ground-breaking marketplace for one-of-a-kind, expertly curated NFT artworks.
The virtual room, unrestricted by physical walls, has a regular rotation of exhibitions, each of which is an immersive maelstrom of creation. The first exhibition, The Next 100 Years of Gucci, showcases a variety of NFT pieces, each representing a unique and collectible fragment of Gucci’s heritage. Three drops will take place, the first took place from June 23-July 1, 2022, the second is underway now, from July 7-July 15, and the third will happen from July 21-July 29. Each will be displayed and put up for auction immediately on Vault’s website. Every sale will be made in ETH.
The announcement on Gucci’s Vault space explains:
“From multi-dimensional Flora prints to GG-monogrammed bionic body parts, within the digital web3 art realm, the possibilities of the House’s next century become endless. A foreshadowing of the journey forward, Vault Art Space’s first cryptoart exhibition and auction, entitled ‘The Next 100 Years of Gucci’ infinitely extends the storyline that Alessandro Michele has set in motion for the House to ever-diverse perspectives.”
29 artists will be showcasing their work in the Vault. The artists were asked to think and reflect on the House’s century-long history and try to imagine its future.
According to the website the initial list of artists includes: Alana Vanacore, Aliina Kauranne, anchenillustration, Antoni Tudisco, Dārta Katrīna, eBoy, Kris Andrew Small, and Sasha Katz; while the next drops will include the works of Alex Trochut, Alexis Christodoulou, Aliendope, ALIENQUEEN, diberkato, Drew Young, Ignasi Monreal, Ignorance1, Jordan Schiffer, loudsqueak, Merijn Hos & Jurriaan Hos, Paulina Almira, Pet Liger, Pindar Van Arman, SamJ, Sheidlina, Tim Maxwell, trs.mnz, Tyler Spangler, VEXX, and YEAHYEAHCHLOE.
Gucci and SuperRare will co-host 3 Twitter Spaces dialogues for the opening of The Next 100 Years of Gucci in the Vault Art Space where artist, curator, philosopher, and writer Rowynn Dumont will engage with participating artists about making and acquiring art today. The Gucci Podcast, which is available on all major podcast streaming services, will also record these open discussions so that you can listen to them afterwards.
All of this makes sense as Gucci is one of the first luxury houses to accept crypto payments.
