What do you get when you mix several of the world’s most talented rappers together? In most cases, it’s a bunch of hype. But, there are instances when the music actually lives up to the hype. Throughout hip-hop history, we’ve been blessed with a variety of supergroups that have produced memorable albums and unforgettable collaborations. Some groups have been short lived, while others have been linking up for years.
Snoop Dogg is an OG member of the supergroup squad. He was technically a part of 213—a group featuring Warren G and Nate Dogg—prior to becoming a legendary solo artist and pop culture icon. 213 released their gold-selling debut, The Hard Way, in 2004.
More recently, Uncle Snoop let it be known he’d partnered up with another crew of West Coast icons to form Mt. Westmore. The supergroup, consisting of the Doggystyle rap star, Ice Cube, E-40, and Too Short, officially came together in 2020. They expect to release their first group project sometime this year.
“Big Subwoofer,” the first official track from the Mt. Westmore gang, appears on Snoop’s Def Jam debut, the recently released Snoop Dogg Presents Algorithm.
So, who comes to mind when you think of supergroups? We put together a list of some of the most memorable hip-hop supergroups we could think of. See who made our list.
