We didn’t know we needed this, but we do.

Swedish House Mafia have long been on the scene as the go-to soundtrack for teenage angst. You’re probably already humming “Don’t You Worry, Don’t You Worry Child” in your head. But now they’ve returned on our radars for completely different reasons, because they are working on a furniture line. We know, it sounds bizarre, but IKEA, a Swedish build-it-yourself furniture manufacturer, is now working with the iconic three-boy band.

The collaboration details (so far)

The announcement was made at the IKEA Festival, with the collection set to debut in September 2022. This new collection will focus on cheap home furnishing solutions for composing, playing, and listening to music, with a focus on making it easy to get into a creative flow at home. Doesn’t that sound super lovely?

Swedish House Mafia – Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso – and IKEA wanted to acknowledge the importance of music in our homes and its capacity to inspire creativity, relieve tension, and make a space feel like home. Since everyone seems to be a DJ these days, IKEA recognized how many individuals make music at home and decided to make it easier for them to achieve their goals. This is especially vital following a series of lockdowns that made our houses feel more like prisons than safe havens for creativity and comfort.

Statements from both parties

IKEA’s product design leader, James Futcher, stated that the company hopes to “democratize creativity and music production so that even more people can be more creative at home with its strong competence in music production.” IKEA wants to see how it can make everyday life easier for the many individuals who listen to and create music by collaborating with Grammy Award-nominated trio Swedish House Mafia. He continued that “This collection will enable consumers to create the perfect home studio at a reasonable price.”

Swedish House Mafia added:

“Both wanted to break out of [their] comfort zones and create something new and fresh together: a true partnership between music makers and a home expert. We felt a great need to cooperate with someone who shared our idea of allowing everybody to produce music at home. As artists and producers, we also understand the importance of a home studio set-up and the needs and challenges many up-and-coming artists and creatives have at home.”

More information regarding this collaboration will be released sometime in the next year, but all we know for that is that this collaboration promises to help creative juices flow straight into your home. What else could we ask for!
