Fire Finds: Junya Watanabe Velcro Shoulder Bag

Japanese designer Junya Watanabe never ceases to amaze me with the way he pushes the envelope in the fashion industry. Over the last few years, he’s mastered combining camouflage with traditional office attire on his mainline pieces while also using recycled bags on his The North Face collaborations. But above all else, he’s the master of pockets. His knack for giving you more pockets than you need has translated from vests to accessories as well.

As I was browsing through Union LA’s website after writing about their latest Air Jordan 4 collaboration, I stumbled across the Junya Watanabe Velcro Shoulder Bag in the sale section. Made in Japan, the only color available at this time is blue. On the outside, a small zipper gives access to a compartment that would be optimal for keys, a passport and some hand sanitizer given today’s pandemic climate. But that’s not all, inside the main zipper compartment on the underside, Watanabe has hidden two additional pockets in camo – perfect for storing your phone and wallet. The bag is held in place with an adjustable strap that goes around your waist while you put your left shoulder through the loop. Optimally, this would be an amazing travel accessory, once it’s safe to do that again.

Priced at a discounted price of $354, that’s 40% off from the original $590 sticker price. If you have the means, this is up there in the Fire Finds column, especially since Junya pieces are hard to come by and usually hold their value over time.
