As if this year couldn’t get any weirder, rapper and provocateur Kanye West has announced that he is running for the President of the United States. The hip-hop auteur took to Twitter on the 4th of July to announce his candidacy, promising a “unifying” future for the nation. He swiftly garnered support from the likes of fellow billionaires Elon Musk and his wife, reality star Kim Kardashian.
We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States πΊπΈ! #2020VISION

Critics fear that this is a tactic to draw votes away from Democratic nominee Joe Biden, ensuring another term for incumbent Donald Trump –Β whom West has supported publicly in the past. Others have pointed out that joining the race this late would disqualify West from appearing on several state ballots, implying this is merely the latest of Ye’s antics to stay relevant.
FYI to anyone jumping into the 2020 race at this point: it’s too late to get on the ballot as an independent candidate for president in the states of Indiana, Maine, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, and Texas, per Ballotpedia

We sincerely hope this is a stunt. If not, fingers crossed that the next 2020 trend will be the guillotine.
