All eyes are on Kanye West. It’s been a while, but he’s officially back in album mode. On July 23rd, the 21-time Grammy Award winning icon will deliver his long awaited Donda album. After much speculation, an official announcement came during Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

One of the select few to be blessed with an early listen to the Yeezus rapper’s 10th solo album was Justin LaBoy. According to the social media personality and co-host of REVOLT TV’s late night show, Respectfully Justin, the Jesus is King rapper is not only sonically pushing boundaries, but also ushering in a new era with his latest album.
“ITS about to be a #YeezyEra A season only lasts a couple months. The man changed the sound of music on this project,” wrote LaBoy after hearing Donda and checking out a Big3 game with Ye.
Donda, named after West’s late mother, was originally slated to drop in 2020. The first release from the hotly anticipated project was the Travis Scott-assisted “Wash Us In The Blood.” However, the album was pushed back indefinitely for unknown reasons.
2020 was a hell of a 12-month period for many of us. And as always, the “Through The Wire” artist had a lot going on. While working on Donda, Kanye dealt with what many people saw as a breakdown of some sort, an impending divorce from wife Kim Kardashian and a failed presidential run. He also began work on his Yeezy Gap line, which recently delivered its first sold out piece.
Now, ready to bounce back, Kanye West seems like a man on a mission. He’s back on Instagram and back to focusing on music, at least for the time being.
The soon-to-be released Donda supposedly features the likes of Lil Baby, Future, Baby Keem, Playboi Carti, Griselda and others. The track “No Child Left Behind,” which was previewed in a Beats ad featuring record-breaking track and field star Sha’Carri Richardson, is also set to appear on the album.
The forthcoming album, seemingly also offers a glimpse into the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy artist’s very public life. According to reports from people who have heard the new Ye project, it contains lyrics like, “Tell the assassins I escaped from Calabasas.”
Is a new Kanye West era upon us? Probably. The creative genius has changed the game a few times before. Let’s see what’s next. Donda drops on July 23.
