LeBron James continues to prove that he hasn’t forgotten where it all started. The world-class athlete who refuses to shut up and dribble is once again putting his money and resources where his mouth is. The 4-time NBA champion’s LeBron James Family Foundation is building a multi-use community center called House Three Thirty in his hometown, Akron, Ohio.
“Our main goal in everything we do is to support and prepare our families for a better future,” said LeBron James in a statement. “And this concept, House Three Thirty, is the next step of that journey. I’m excited to open a space that puts everything we want to offer them under one roof.”
The Los Angeles Laker and his foundation have partnered with the likes of JPMorgan Chase, DICK’S Sporting Goods, Old El Paso and other major corporations to build sports and recreation facilities and retail spaces, as well as deliver a variety of services to the community. House Three Thirty will host financial literacy, job training and other community-focused programming.
House Three Thirty, which is named after Akron’s area code, will be located on the property which housed the historic Tangier Restaurant — an iconic venue once frequented by the likes of Tina Turner and James Brown. Buying back the block one step at a time, LeBron’s foundation recently purchased the Tangier Restaurant property.
House Three Thirty is scheduled to open its doors in 2022.
