In moments like these, violence is the answer.

The new directors for Loki season 2, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, are taking the baton from season one director Kate Herron. They’re ushering in a new (yet slightly familiar) take, as they continue the multiverse adventure series. The two directors made their MCU director debut in Moon Knight episode two, and their gears are already turning. Currently, to plan out their course of action for Loki.

Loki is the first Disney+ MCU live-action series to get a second season. Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, and Sophia Di Martino are likely to return. The first season concluded with the famed trickster god (played by Hiddleston) realizing he had been sent into an alternate TVA. This was after his variant, Sylvie (played by Di Martino), killed the mysterious He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors). To make matters worse and more complicated, TVA employee and Loki’s ally, Mobius (Wilson), doesn’t know who he is.

While promoting Moon Knight with ComicBook.com, Benson and Moorhead teased what they’ll bring to season 2. Moorhead highlighted their desire to make something “new and fresh.” They also did that with Moon Knight (the only series of its kind in the MCU). With that being emphasized, Loki will undoubtedly breed the same level of anticipation and excitement from the fans who are currently enjoying Moon Knight and all its (intense and violent) traits.

“I think the biggest thing about Loki is just that it’s actually a lot like Moon Knight, where there’s just no reason to do it if it’s not going to be something new and fresh. It’s funny is, it does feel like Marvel would be willing to walk away unless it actually is something that they felt the unexpected. Like from Moon Knight and especially because Moon Knight is a character where nobody knows almost anything about him, yet. Soon to be changed, right? And so our gloves are off and we get to kind of do whatever we want. And everybody at Marvel and ourselves gets really excited when we are presented with the unexpected. We also of course, hope that people watching feel the same way and we’re gonna bring all that to Loki.”

Though Loki season 1 concluded in July 2021, the second season doesn’t seem like it’s any closer to being released. There have been various reports that filming could begin this summer, which means Loki season 2 won’t premiere until 2023 (at the earliest).

We’re excited to see what’s in store and if Loki potentially makes an appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness next month.
