Look Don't Touch

Louis Vuitton teamed up with the NBA – yes, you read that right

I have been watching basketball since the age of four, (for reference I’m 29) and have been a Lakers fan ever since. I remember the days where Derek Fisher and Robert Horry used to run down the court. Trevor Ariza, Pau Gasol, Ron Artest – back when he was Ron Artest – Lamar Odom, Luke Walton, Shaq, and of course Kobe – were all players I grew up watching. They all had work ethic and love for the game that inspired me to pursue all my endeavors with passion and dedication. Which brings me to fashion.

Entering the industry nearly eight years ago, I jumped from merchandising to styling to journalism. I appreciate fashion journalism because just like basketball, you have to work hard to have a good game, in my case – article. Of course you have your tried-and-true techniques, but the game and fashion, keeps you on your toes – forever challenging you to look deeper and strive for excellence.

Like I said, I’m big on basketball and fashion. So you could imagine my delight when I caught wind of the recent partnership between Louis Vuitton and the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Earlier this year, Louis Vuitton announced a three-year partnership with the NBA under Black fashion designer Virgil Abloh. To my glee, the partnership launched with the recent crowning of Lakers as the 2020 NBA Champions. The Larry O’Brien Trophy was presented for the first time in the bespoke Louis Vuitton Trophy Travel Case.

The case was hand-crafted in the outskirts of Paris and was inspired by the atelier’s heritage. Wrapped in Louis Vuitton’s signature monogram canvas, the trunk showcases the brand’s 1854 starting. It displays a “V” motif in white with blue and red to symbolize, “Victory Travels in Louis Vuitton.”

The collection will have limited edition clothing, leather goods, accessories and shoes. The collaboration will also be home to traditional suiting with the Jerry West silhouette logo, knitted sweaters and retro-inspired jackets. For the casual look, there will be T-shirts and sweatpants in white with blue and red.

Over to accessories, LV will have rings, necklaces, and bracelets. But probably the most exciting piece, and one the players I’d assume would wear most, the shoes. There’s also a wardrobe trunk! The collection will be available November 20.
