Madame Web could potentially connect MCU and Sonyverse

A tangled web of questions and potential.

The end of Spider-Man: No Way Home left some room for interpretation for many Marvel fans. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has Tom Holland as their Spider-Man, it’s still very unclear whether or not Holland will be oscillating between the MCU and Sonyverse. Andrew Garfield was at one point the Sonyverse’s Spider-Man, and while his appearance in No Way Home was one hell of a surprise, but not a surprise, it’s still unclear whether or not he will be reprising his role.

The Sonyverse is building their Spider-Man universe by way of his most well-known villians, such as Venom, Morbius, Vulture (who is being “borrowed” from the MCU), and we will soon be meeting Kraven the Hunter in his own solo movie in 2023. While the connection between the universes is still a little blurry, one woman could present the simple solution that could potentially answer all of our questions.

Earlier this year, Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) was brought on to play Madame Web in an upcoming eponymous film set to release sometime in late 2023. According to Deadline, the film “will be an origin story of the clairvoyant, whose psychic abilities allow her to see within the spider world.” You read that correctly. If you’re a long-time Spider-Man fan, then you remember Madame Web as the old lady in the webbed throne who guided Spider-Man as somewhat of a mentor. Her ability to see all corners of the Spider-Verse will most likely be the missing piece of the puzzle that connects all Spider-Man projects together.

As of right now, live-action Spider-Man projects are on hold in the MCU and the closest thing we are getting is the animated series Spider-Man: Freshman YearHowever, it’s still unclear whether or not the animated series will be canon to the MCU.

As for the Sonyverse, moves are being made with Kraven the HunterVenom 3, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (which will be released in two parts)Madame Web being released in between the two-part release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse raises eyebrows and could very well give us valuable information and context.

If Madame Web jumps straight into exploring the Spider-Verse, we very well could be getting a continued relationship between the MCU’s Spider-Man and the Sonyverse Spider-Man — all of which could lead into a tangential large-scale plotline.

In related news, Bad Bunny is making his way into the Sonyverse.
