Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream and vision for America. He saw beyond the country’s great divides and envisioned a future of togetherness and equality. A symbol of hope, courage and resilience, the civil rights leader preached and fought against injustices that are to this day affecting many Americans.
The current global coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 presidential election and the Trump-provoked invasion of the U.S. Capitol have shown that the United States of America remains divided. Luckily, recent voter turnout across the board, as well as fights against inequality spearheaded by movements like Black Lives Matter and #MeToo, among other things, have offered some reassurance that Dr. King’s dream can still be realized.
Our 2021 MLK Day Playlist is comprised of songs crafted by iconic artists like Nina Simone, Marvin Gay and Jay-Z, as well as contemporary stars like Meek Mill, Joey Bada$$ and Pusha T that address the inequalities, injustices and other struggles Martin Luther King Jr. fought against. As you celebrate and reflect on his legacy, listen to this playlist inspired by the King.
