We haven’t seen the last of the Skrulls.

It’s been reported that Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion is currently in production. The new Disney+ series will star Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn returning as Talos, and Game of Throne‘s Emilia Clarke (her role hasn’t been disclosed). Back in April, word emerged that Killian Scott (known for Love/Hate and Dublin Murders) had joined Secret Invasion. At the time, his role was under wraps, but a report from The Direct claims the actor will play Fiz, a mutant Skrull with the ability to change his size.

What we know so far

Early production for Secret Invasion began in August and the six-episode miniseries is set to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2022. It is loosely based on the 2008 Marvel Comics event of the same name, which focused on Earth being infiltrated by the Skrulls, an alien race of shape-shifters who previously appeared in Captain Marvel.

Early reports on the television series suggest that it will also heavily feature elements of spies and espionage, something that is supported by the appearance of a Skrull in a WandaVision mid-credits scene. While all Skrulls can shape-shift, Fiz is part of a group of mutants within the race who have extra abilities. Fiz debuted in 1999’s X-Men #95. Like other mutant Skrulls, Fiz was rejected by his people — which led to his exiled journey to Earth, meeting with Professor X and eventually helping in the fight against Apocalypse.

Although Fiz is a relatively minor character, and those he has interacted with have yet to appear in the MCU, it’s likely Fiz will be one of many characters who join the MCU in little more than name (unless the X-Men debut before the premiere of Secret Invasion). But since the Skrulls were already altered to be less villainous in Captain Marvel, it’s hard to imagine Killian Scott’s Fiz playing an Apocalypse-fighting Skrull in the streaming miniseries.

Nick Fury was recently featured in Marvel’s What If…?, but hasn’t been seen in live-action since 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. Jackson has been very vocal about his excitement for Secret Invasion and has teased a reunion with actress Brie Larson, who played an important part in the Skrulls’ survival during the events of her own film. But considering the secrecy around this series, it’s hard to tell if that team-up will play out in Secret Invasion or somewhere else in future MCU projects.

In other Marvel news, Bill Murray has confirmed his involvement in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and will Venom join the MCU?
