Michael B. Jordan knows how to put on a show. Prior to delivering critically acclaimed performances in popular films like Fruitvale Station and Black Panther, he was earning his acting chops on cult television classics like HBO’s The Wire and NBC’s Friday Night Lights. The star actor and producer is now ready to bring the story of an iconic Black athlete to the small screen.
Jordan and his production company, Outlier Society TV, are set to produce a limited television series for Amazon Studios that will draw inspiration from the life of one of America’s most celebrated icons, boxing legend and social activist Muhammad Ali. “People know Muhammad Ali from his boxing days, but this is an opportunity to go beyond the ring, and more into the man. It’s going to give more of a 360 degree view of who he was,” said Jordan, who chopped it up with Deadline to unveil his plans for the future.
According to the self-described boxing enthusiast, the forthcoming Muhammad Ali series is slated to be titled The Greatest and will find Jordan collaborating with Roc Nation and the Ali estate “to tell this story with no red tape.” “To be able to honor Muhammad Ali and elaborate on his legacy is something I’m really excited about,” said the multifaceted star, who is set to make his directorial debut with the upcoming Creed III.
Elsewhere in the interview, Jordan expressed his desire to entertain and inspire people from all over the world, as well as continue to diversify his creative portfolio, which since 2018 has included a creative and philanthropic partnership with Coach. “My ambition and appetite has grown over the years,” said the actor and Coach’s first global menswear ambassador. “It has consistently gotten more diverse as it has expanded to wonder what is possible.”
People magazine’s most recent “Sexiest Man Alive” Jordan has been successfully making moves behind the scenes, but that hasn’t stopped him from doing his thing in front of the camera. He’s currently being directed by Denzel Washington for the upcoming movie Journal for Jordan, while also gearing up for the release of Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse. The highly anticipated action film starring Jordan was teased during a Super Bowl LV commercial and will premiere April 30 on Prime Video. Throughout his career from his humble beginnings to Hollywood power player, Michael B. Jordan has continued to put in his work.
