Earlier this year, the Nothing Phone (1) was announced during a livestream where the company’s CEO, Carl Pei, discussed his goals for the smartphone. Up until now, most details have been kept under wraps in regards to the specificities of the device. However, some sources have indicated that the product will compete favorably with other top flagships.
The design of the Nothing Phone (1) has been recently revealed though. The smartphone’s transparent back has caused some division among enthusiasts as seen in the official photographs released by Nothing. Despite Pei’s insistence that the Phone (1) will essentially be an iPhone killer, it is undeniable that Apple’s device serves as a major source of inspiration.
The 2 primary cameras for the Nothing Phone (1) are located right next to a microphone and flashlight, and form a vertical pill-shaped island. However, there is no information available regarding the cameras’ lenses. The smartphone appears to have 3 buttons on the sides—2 on one side and 1 on the other—mirroring the industry norm of 2 volume buttons and 1 for locking the screen.
The light strips surrounding the camera island and the wireless charging coil are the 2 components of the Nothing Phone (1)’s design that stand out. The 3 light strips’ design, which was hinted at at earlier Nothing events for the Phone (1), definitely feels unique. The lights have a number of functions, including showing charging information and acting as notification indications when the phone is face down.
The Nothing Phone (1) doesn’t have a release date yet. The only information about a release date at this time is that the company will hold a complete reveal event on July 12. The official launch date is still a mystery, but the event date provides fans a general timeframe of when they may anticipate hearing more.
Even though the exact release date has not been specified yet, fans can sign up for the chance to pre-order the smartphone before it goes on sale. The company did announce via Twitter that you can register for a unique invite to pre-order the Nothing Phone (1). For its initial smartphone release, reservations are accessible to private community members first using an invitation code system. The private community members will have 48 hours to use their code to make a non-refundable payment of about $25 USD, securing a chance to buy the Nothing Phone (1).
With reservation invitations scheduled to be sent out in waves, anyone can now join the waitlist. The deposit will be subtracted from the total at checkout, and an additional $25 USD will be provided, which may be applied to the purchase of Phone (1) accessories or Ear 1 earphones. The phone’s official retail pricing has not yet been disclosed.
With all this happening, Apple, the most valuable global brand, is still trying to innovate to hold their top spot in the cell phone world. First, with their foldable iPhone, and now its most affordable 5G iPhone ever.
