Virgil Abloh, whose numerous accomplishments included the founding of Off-White, passed away six months ago, and the label that is key to his legacy has shared the details of who will be following in his footsteps and leading the company.

In an Instagram post, Off-White shared the announcement that Ibrahim Kamara will be stepping into the role of Art & Image Director. The post explained: “[Ibrahim Kamara] will be joining a collective of creatives and overseeing the artistic direction of the brand.” It felt fitting that this news was shared via Instagram because: “Ibrahim’s relationship with Virgil and Off-White™ born and nurtured through DM messages on Instagram, blossomed both personally and professionally in the last 3 years creating a strong bond based on mutual respect and shared values.”

Andrea Grilli, the CEO of Off-White™ explained through the same post:

“In the wake of Virgil’s tragic passing we have been working tirelessly to keep his legacy alive and the brand relevant as a point of reference and platform in constant evolution. Inspired by Virgil’s vision and approach to his art we have nourished a collective of creative minds that represent the best in their category and have a strong and personal connection with Virgil. Having Ibrahim on board, who has been part of the Off-White™ family for years styling our shows, to oversee art and creative of the brand in this next chapter is a great honor. With his talent and vision we look forward to taking on the next chapter of Off-White™ together, always remembering the groundbreaking creativity and values that Virgil had at heart and that are the core of our brand.”

About Ibrahim Kamara

Many creatives who have been involved with the company for a while shared the belief that the only way to maintain and grow the label while honoring its true spirit is to recruit a multitude of talents. London-based Kamara, was appointed Editor-in-Chief of Dazed in 2021 and is a former fashion Editor-at-Large for i-D.

He’s a prolific and incredibly talented stylist and image-maker. His portfolio of work boasts big names and brands such as Burberry, Louis Vuitton, and Kenneth Ize, among many others. Not only this, but Kamara has won the Isabella Blow Award at the British Fashion Council in 2021.

It seems that the label is back up and running with this announcement and we are happy to see that the legacy of Virgil Abloh and Off-White will live on.

In other news, you can see the Louis Vuitton and Nike “Air Force 1” by Virgil Abloh exhibit now in NYC, free until May 31.
