The green Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 has been making rounds on the internet for a few months and if you’re a sneakerhead, you’ve definitely been waiting for the release date and price. Now dubbed the “Brooklyn” in correlation with Virgil Abloh’s “Figures of Speech” exhibition going on at the Brooklyn Museum, this pair will finally make its way into the hands of lucky fans and resellers next week. But before we get to that, let’s recap some of Virgil’s Air Force 1 Low history.
Virgil AF1 Lows
No one forgets “The Ten” that Virgil dropped off in 2017. It is an essential piece of not only sneaker history but a huge part of the reason why high fashion and streetwear have been able to open so many collaborative doors. With the translucent panels, “AIR” on the heel, and suede overlay panels from “The Ten” AF1 in 2017, Virgil started unforgettable run with the silhouette.
Nothing says classic AF1 like an all-white or all-black pair and Virgil answered that call in 2017 and 2018. Debuting at ComplexCon in 2017 for the AF1’s 35th anniversary (AF100), the all-white pair with a silver metallic Swoosh is still one of the rarest pairs out there. It was followed up in early 2018 with a MoMA-exclusive all-black pair that also featured the silver metallic Swoosh (see a pattern here).
Building off that energy of exclusives, a wider release of a “Volt” and “Black/White” combination took place towards the end of 2018 and even offered a full run of sizing. The mesh-heavy pairs were a stand-in for some more museum and exhibition exclusives to come, even though none of us knew at the time.
In 2019, “Figures of Speech” premiered at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA). To celebrate the homecoming, a “University Blue” colorway was released. In 2021, when the exhibit moved to Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA). And you guessed it, an exclusive colorway was released, this time the “University Gold” variation.
So it really isn’t surprising that we’re here now with another one.
Nike surprisingly released a New York City SNKRS Pass yesterday, 9/9, for 21 Mercer pickups starting on 9/12 and 9/13. Giving New York fans first access makes a lot of sense, but don’t worry, if you live in other parts of the country, a SNKRS app release will also take place on September 13.
Retailing for $160, the “Brooklyn” version of the Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 celebrates the 40th anniversary of the sneaker with a “Light Green Spark” colorway and the same silver metallic Swoosh we’ve grown to love.
This pair is already commanding over $2,000 on the resell market and should hold at over $1,000 even after release, making for a great personal flex or easy flip. You can catch “Figures of Speech” now at the Brooklyn Museum.
Also, don’t forget about the Virgil Abloh-designed Louis Vuitton x Air Force 1 collection.
