The beginning of a new month always means more opportunities for funding, grants, fellowships, and residencies. In the spirit of our support for hustle culture, knowing very well what creatives have to undergo in order to make ends meet, here is our list of all the opportunities available to you this April.
“The Chicago Botanic Garden will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2022. A series of public programs and art experiences will celebrate the Garden’s remarkable growth and will establish the tone for the next decade. We are looking for artists to be a part of this celebration. The (pdf) document, Statements of Interest, details the process for being considered in this collaboration. A (pdf) map of the Chicago Botanic Garden grounds is included to reference for the initial stages. Artists of the Chicago region and nationally are welcome to submit by the April 12, 2021 deadline.”
Deadline: April 12, 2021 (Today)
“Shine: Catching the Light will exhibit artwork where light is a prominent element in the piece. Whether light is used to define shape and space, convey drama and emotion, as a metaphor or symbol, or as an artistic medium itself, this exhibition will explore the myriad ways artists consider light in their practice. What does it mean to shine? Or to “be the light?” How can light reveal an attitude, a person’s character, express a transformative experience, or a reflect on social issues and current events? How can artwork physically catch the light and shine? This is a national juried exhibition. All media welcome; small to large-scale works; indoor and outdoor works accepted; cash awards.”
Deadline: April 18, 2021
“The Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant supports emerging and established writers who write about contemporary visual art. Ranging from $15,000 to $50,000 in three categories—articles, books, and short-form writing—the grants support projects addressing both general and specialized art audiences, from short reviews for magazines and newspapers to in-depth scholarly studies. We also support art writing that engages criticism through interdisciplinary methods and experiments with literary styles. As long as a writer meets the eligibility and publishing requirements, they can apply.”
