21 Job Boards for aspiring politicians

Now that you know what it takes to get involved in politics, we put together a list of job boards that could help you out in furthering your political career.

Senate Jobs

Posted and updated regularly on the Senate Employment Bulletin. The great thing about this website is they are posted on a rolling basis, but keep in mind these positions go fast so if you see something that peeks your interest, act early. They often have summer internships posted as early as January.

House Jobs

Also posted on a bulletin, on a rolling basis.

Internships at the White House

The Executive Branch hosts summer interns set up for five different departments within the White House. While interning, you’ll learn more about the inner workings of the executive branch. Work varies but it will involve some sort of administrative work, research and writing.

Typically, applications open every November and are due early January.

Internships at the Supreme Court

It’s not required to have an interest or background in law to be considered for an internship at the Supreme Court. Internships are available with the Office of the Counselor to the Chief Justice, Office of the Curator, Public Information Office, and Office of the Clerk. Other Government Agencies

Most of the other government jobs are posted in USAJOBS, the federal government jobs site.

State Department

Great for candidates interested in international relations and policy. Internships are available at embassies, bureaus, and many offices around the world. Summer internships are due the previous September and jobs can be found here. Good news, they also have a virtual internship program called the Virtual Student Foreign Service.

“The Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS) is an eight-month remote internship program for U.S. citizen students, college-level and above, who would like to make a real difference in the work of the U.S. government. Since 2009, thousands of eInterns have expanded the efforts of the U.S. government, working remotely from their school, dorm room, apartment, local library or coffee shop – wherever they happen to be! Virtual interns work only on unclassified projects. They report to their supervisors at the Department of State and other federal government agencies in the U.S. and around the world by email, phone, or video chat. VSFS is managed by the Office of eDiplomacy in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Information Resource Management. VSFS collaborates with federal agencies across government on this program.” More information available here. The application period is annual during the month of July.

Intelligence

Intelligence services include the CIA, FBI, DIA, and NSA. Information about internships at the Central Intelligence Agency can be found here. A quick note: intelligence internship applications are due a year in advance due to the security clearance process.
