This weekend holds a special place in my heart as well as millions of hearts around the world, since it’ll be the start of Mamba Week – a week-long celebration of the life, legacy and lessons of late Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant. As such, this week’s must have sneakers will include limited edition runs of Kobe V Protros as well as others. Let’s just into this week’s Hot Cakes.

Nike Kobe V Protro “Big Stage”

Kobe won his fifth title with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2010 wearing a pair of white and gold Zoom Kobe 5 sneakers. Bringing back this “Big Stage” colorway, the Swoosh celebrates the 10th anniversary of Bryant’s last ring on the Kobe V Protro model with tattoo designs detailing his accomplishments and stats from that year. It goes without saying this is a must-have for any Mamba fan. It’ll be available through SNKRS app and select retailers. – Matt

Release Date: August 23, 2020
Retail: $180
Resell pre-release: $600 – $1,400

Nike Kobe V Protro “5x Champ”

Nothing screams Lakers legend like the gold and purple patent leather sneaker. Celebrating all five of the championships Kobe brought home to Tinseltown, not to mention an Oscar, this pair is complemented with a 5-star palm tree insole and translucent outsole. To me this is as much an art piece as the Jeff Hamilton custom championship jackets they draw inspiration from. Now that’s a fit to pay homage to Bean. These are a MUST KEEP. SNKRS app and select retailers will have them. – Matt

Release Date: August 24, 2020
Retail: $180
Resell pre-release: $775 – $1,000

Nike Dunk Low co.jp “Samba”

The Nike Dunk craze hasn’t stopped and the vault keeps getting opened wider and wider. Digging deeper, all the way back to 2001, Nike is really bringing another co.jp release to a global audience outside of Japan. This classic combination of grey overlay with hyper blue panels and samba red Swoosh and outsole will definitely be welcomed by a new generation of enthusiasts and resellers alike. With a low retail price and high demand for Dunks, this one is a flip, even for an OG collector like myself. Cop them via SNKRS app and at select retailers. – Matt

Release Date: August 21, 2020
Retail: $100
Resell pre-release: $350 – $1,000

END. x New Balance 1500 “Grey Heron”

European retailers have long held the 1500 in the highest regards and have never faltered to deliver on outstanding collaborations. After a tasteful “Grey Gull” CM878EN in 2019, END. once again joins New Balance. This time for a Made In England 1500 inspired by a different bird, the Grey Heron. Pigskin suede covers much of the upper in grey while blues and yellow surround the mesh and other panels paying homage to the bird’s plumage while orange on the outsole pays tribute to its beak. These will be available through END. via raffle going on now. I’m a stock on these, for next spring. – Matt

Nike Air Max 90 “Infrared Blend”

Nike’s Air Max 90 “Infrared Blend” is a special summer treat. This edition, which is an elevated spin-off of the Air Max 90 “Infrared,” fuses a classic base of black with infrared accents and colorful add-ons. The crocodile (synthetic) and pony hair textures on the toe box as well as the mudguard add a touch of exotic wildness to the pair, while the textured leather overlays play to contrast it. Panels of cracked suede keep it a little luxurious, balancing many different layers of stories and making this pair as versatile as can be. This pair is definitely to be sported and flaunted (if we’re being honest). It is reasonably priced, but offers the level of fun and luxury everyone needs to end their summer and prep for the fall. While sold out on Nike, you can buy for nearly retail on StockX. – Sahar

Release Date: August 9, 2020 (released)
Retail: $140

adidas ZX 5000 “National Park Foundation – Joshua Tree”

These multi-color shoes remind me of the old school days when I would customize my Nike Dunks. Although they are adidas, they have a bit of a nostalgic vibe to them and remind me of Space Jam which ultimately makes me think of Michael Jordan. As the latest model in the A-ZX series, you get the same great ZX silhouette. And as a collaboration with the National Park Foundation, this shoe was inspired by the vast landscape, rich houses, and iconic boulders of Joshua Tree National Park. The tonal pink and purple colorway is accompanied by subtle orange hits and reflective shoe laces. The nylon upper and sockliner make this shoe comfy enough for long hours. Depending if you’d like to dress them up or down, the sneakers can be paired with jeans, shorts or trousers. Releasing in a few days, you can cop these on adidas. – Natasha
