Summer tones.

As summer gets into full swing on the East Coast, more and more themed sneaker releases are being timed to hit consumers before it gets too cold. This week’s Hot Cakes sees a variety of sneakers that pay homage to the Olympics, gardens, animal print and more. There’s also a lot of new sneaker innovation that’s being used in this week’s releases, so let’s jump straight into it.

Air Jordan 1 Zoom “Zen Green”

The Air Jordan 1 Zoom is slightly more expensive than its regular AJ1 counterpart thanks to the Zoom Air cushioning system that runs the full-length of the shoe. It’s visible via a translucent outsole that features a red to green radiation pattern from back to front. Jordan Brand says that the colorway was inspired by Japanese gardens but for an old Nike SB head like myself, this palette definitely reminds me of the Nike SB Dunk High “Brut” from 2007. Either way, I’m feeling the mixture of suede and leather on these so they’ll be a cop and rock for sure. You can pick them up via Nike’s SNKRS app and at select retailers. – Matt

Release Date: August 14, 2020
Retail: $175
Resell pre-release: $210 – $250

Nike ISPA Flow 2020 SE “Spruce”

Since launching in 2018, Nike’s ISPA division has looked to take into consideration environment, materials and performance. ISPA stands for Improvise, Scavenge, Protect and Adapt and the latest Flow 2020 SE sneaker is a beautiful iteration of that DNA. The sneakers are inspired by extreme sports athletes and feature an open weave, mesh uppers and Air Kukini-inspired sole. With an easy lacing system and terrain-like colorway these are a must cop and rock for me. You can pick them up via Nike’s SNKRS app and at retailers like END.Matt

adidas Originals x atmos ZX Alkyne “Crazy Animal”

Japanese boutique atmos is the king of animal prints on sneakers. Ever since they dropped the Nike Air Max 1 “Safari” back in 2002, they’ve found ways to further incorporate prints into sneaker silhouettes creating the most fire palettes and combinations. Now, atmos has teamed up with adidas Originals on a new ZX Alkyne model with an appropriate “Crazy Animal” nickname. The exposed translucent BOOST midsole shows off zebra print while cheetah, leopard and tiger prints are layered throughout the upper panels and heels. This is one of the loudest sneakers you can own and I’m all for it. If previous atmos collaborations are any indication, you can stock these and hold them to flip for a good amount later on. Head over to atmos’ website to learn more and purchase. – Matt

Nike Air Presto “Australia”

Nike’s Air Presto history traces back to the year 2000, to a gathering of the best athletes in Sydney, Australia. First debuted by the Australian Olympic team in 2000, the special edition kicks were never released widely until now! It’s not often that a new release comes with a history almost 20 years old, but this pair pays homage to that storied past. With a unique combination of fresh water blue, midnight navy, and yellow, this pair reflects the colors sported by Australia on the global stage. Personally, these are a must cop and rock from Nike’s SNKRS app. – Sahar

Air Jordan 5 “Ghost Green aka Bel Air”

Admittedly this sneaker caught my eye for the name. As a massive Fresh Prince of Bel Air fan, I was intrigued. Rumors about the “Bel Air” launch have been circulating since December and are finally being released this Saturday. A play off of the original 2013 pair, these retro shoes have white uppers and racer pink or ghost green Jumpman logos on the tongue and heel. It wouldn’t be complete without the “23” branding on the lateral heel. You can purchase these from the genius Nike’s SNKRS app as well. – Natasha
