San Diego Comic-Con showed us the very first trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and let’s just say it’s been a long time coming. It’s been 3 years since the first Shazam! film, and it’s one of the few DC projects that have done well.
The first installment ended with Billy’s family receiving powers of their own, creating a whole family of God-like heroes. The sequel will follow our main protagonist as he begins to doubt his ability to live up to his superhero role compared to other heroes in his universe such as Batman, Aquaman, and The Flash.
In the new trailer, we see that Shazam is joined by his foster brothers and sisters as they join forces to take on the sisters of Atlas, Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu), who are upset with the Shazam family taking the power of the gods.
“There’s so much heart, and so much humor,” Shazam! star Zachary Levi told those in attendance at Hall H. “And I am kind of like a Peter Pan of sorts. If anyone ever came to Nerd HQ, you know that I love throwing parties, I love people, I love my family.”
“We’ve got this really cool look into all the kids getting their superpowers at the end of the last movie, and now, we’re a few years in,” Levi said, teasing a time jump in the film. “We’ve all been flying around trying to do little missions, but we’re still trying to figure it out… Super family comes with super drama.”
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will be in theaters on December 21, 2022.
