Every once in a while, some incredible opportunities pop up such as grants for artists and artist residencies. This September, we are highlighting Silent Partners’ new grant for Black Brooklyn-based artists and Movement workers.
This amazing opportunity provides monthly $1,000 grants for these artists. The grants are administered by a group of Black panelists, divulging funds provided by anonymous white partners who are completely removed from the process. They have so far issued seven grants and are looking forward to more applications.
Silent Partners was created due to the racial wealth gap that still persists today. On their website, the group shares: “As of 2016, the net worth of a typical white family is nearly 10 times greater than that of a Black family. In the face of ongoing economic inequality, we hope this $1,000 grant can play a small role to support and sustain Black artists and Movement workers.”
