Rock, Stock or Flip? This week’s sneaker releases

words by: Matt Peng
Dec 2, 2020

It’s hard to believe that 2020 is almost over – but also, thank goodness it is. As we enter the final month of a tornado of a year, brand collaborations aim to tell more striking stories and add color to a holiday season that deserves a bit of happiness and brightness. This week’s Hot Cakes will also see history made with the first-ever Latinx artist collaboration alongside Jordan Brand. Let’s jump right into it.

FRAME x Nike SB Dunk Low “Habibi”

Nike SB‘s hot 2020 continues with another collaboration on the Dunk Low silhouette. This time around, UAE boutique FRAME puts their spin on the icon’s DNA and adds double Swoosh logos on the lateral and medial sides as well as a double tongue and dual-colored laces. Sporting the colors of their nation, this collaboration pays homage to bringing together different elements like skateboarding, fashion and art into a singular frame. “Habibi” is also Arabic for “My Love” which we love as a nickname for this pair. If you can grab these, they are definitely worthy of putting on-feet for Christmas.

Release Date: December 2, 2020 (FRAME), December 5, 2020 (Global)

J Balvin x Air Jordan 1

J Balvin makes history this week as the first Latino artist to collaborate on an Air Jordan silhouette – and it’s the ever popular Air Jordan 1 nonetheless. The Colombian musician is known for his energy and that is directly translated onto his vision for the AJ1. With neon hues taking over the entire upper and a pink mid and outsole, this pair explores with his “colores” and “vibras” (colors and vibes, his 2020 and 2018 album titles) as inspiration. His signature smiley face appears on the heel, tongue and insole and rough-hewn overlays mix up the usually clean lines. Head over to SNKRS app and select retailers to grab these. If bright colors aren’t your thing, these will definitely be a great holiday flip.

Release Date: December 8, 2020
Retail: $190
Resell pre-release: $775 – $3,500

Nike Air Force 1 High “Nordic”

If there was ever a perfect Air Force 1 for the Christmas season, these are it. I’m a huge fan of the AF1 High because of the added ankle support, especially during slippery winter months so these are a much cop. The red snowflake print along the toe box and quarters along with the green on the ankle strap and all the warmth from the faux fur lining would make Santa jealous. Cop and rock for sure. Head over to SNKRS app and select retailers to grab your pair.

Release Date: December 7, 2020
Retail: $120
Resell pre-release: $360 – $1,500

Noah x adidas Originals Gazelle OG “Cheetah”

Back in August, Noah and adidas dropped off a SL72 silhouette that we featured in our Hot Cakes column. Now, the duo return with two new iterations of the Gazelle OG model. I love that Noah looked towards late ’80s and early ’90s NYC vibes to channel into the footwear. Personally, I think the pony hair cheetah print is wavy af. Noah and adidas Confirmed app will both be launching this pair along with its orange canvas camo counterpart.

Release Date: December 3, 2020

Resell pre-release: $310 – $500

adidas YEEZY BOOST 350 V2 “Core Black/Core Black/Red” aka “Bred”

An extremely popular colorway on any brand or model, black and red – or “Bred” for short – is making a return onto the YEEZY BOOST 350 V2. First released back in 2017, the red wording on the Primeknit upper of the sneaker contrasts the black for a statement pair. I remember when these used to fetch well over $1,000 years ago and now you have a chance to get them again. adidas will drop them via their adidas app and on yeezysupply.com.
