The beauty of sneakers lies within their endless potential – their potential for creative expression through materials, design, storytelling, packaging, collaboration and more. This week’s Hot Cakes features all of the above. It’s another heated battle between the Swoosh and Three Stripes for bragging rights and your dollars this weekend. But there’s also some special pieces for all the runners out there. Let’s jump right into it.

Nike Dunk Low “Community Garden”

I love every aspect of this sneaker – the materials, design and storytelling. Inspired by community gardens in large cities – NYC has a lot in LES – these Dunks (Not SBs) harness the lemon wash, midnight turquoise and burgundy of plants, benches and tools found in that setting. The patchwork graphics are also different on each pair which makes it a must cop for me, grab them from SNKRS app and select retailers. These will see a lot of wear post-COVID for anything I do. – Matt

Concepts x adidas ZX9000 “Boston Marathon”

adidas has been joining up with various brands and boutiques for its A to ZX program and Concepts was selected for the letter “C.” Originally from Massachusetts, Concepts honors their home turf with a Boston Marathon-inspired ZX9000. The upper’s silver foil texture and reflective laces are a direct nod to the blankets marathon runners use after a race to recover. The Three Stripes receive a red, white and blue makeover and co-branding is done on the insoles and tongue tab. If you’re a runner, these are a must. Concepts did a pre-release but you can grab them from adidas and other retailers this week. – Matt

Release Date: September 12, 2020
Retail: $140
Resale: $200 – $400

Nike ISPA OverReact “Shadowberry”

The ISPA OverReact “Shadowberry” is a true testament to comfort and fashion. Its Flyknit upper was made using extra yarn that would’ve otherwise been sent to a landfill. This results in a gorgeous fit that features reused knit patterns from other shoes, while providing much needed stability and comfort. This laceless design comes with a Velcro closure system that makes it super easy to wear. A mixed colorway of black and a reddish purple coupled with the React sole in grey with black accents come together to create a dreamy shadowy effect. This fit is great for exercise, long runs, and a perfect addition to your fall wardrobe. Grab them at SNKRS app or retailers. – Sahar

Filling Pieces Crease Runner

This week I want to pay tribute to all the marathon runners that have spent months training and weren’t able to run due to COVID-19 reschedules. This is also for the new runner who developed the activity while sheltering-in-place. As a runner with multiple races under my belt, I am so excited about the Filling Pieces new Crease Runner! A bit on the expensive side, these runners have classic nylon uppers and suede and leather fashionable details. The shoes have wrapped rubber outsoles and are perfect for long runs and everyday life. They already dropped via – Natasha
