The end of summer is here but the sneaker industry isn’t slowing down moving into fall. If anything, more and more drops have been scheduled. This week’s Hot Cakes tell amazing stories – some old, some new – and features multiple must-have collabs. We hope you’ve been saving that stimulus check because these are worthy kicks to spend on. Let’s jump right into it.
Nike Dunk High “Maize & Blue”
Last week, Nike dropped off the Michigan State “Spartan Green” Dunk High and this week, their interstate rival UMich has their iconic colors return on Dunk silhouette. A classic school colorway that has been issued in every college pack, these are a must have – even if this isn’t the school you’re reppin’. Pick these up through various boutique raffles or via Nike’s SNKRS app. – Matt

WTAPS x Vans Vault OG Era LX “Bones/Orange”
I’m a huge fan of WTAPS and Vans collaborations because they are consistent and always bring the DNA of both brands to the forefront so you can instantly tell it’s theirs. WTAPS has always been known for their Bones collabs with the West Coast skate apparel brand, especially in black and olive – that’s why this pair is so special. This is the first time orange is gracing any model for a collab (burgundy made a rare appearance back in 2011 on a Syndicate pack). In addition to the OG Era LX model, a Sk8-Hi LX will also be offered. Corresponding black pairs will also release along with a full apparel collection. These are available through select Vans Vault retailers like Feature through a draw. I am rocking, stocking every single one of these. – Matt

LEGO x adidas ZX8000
Part of adidas’ A-ZX series, which calls upon worldwide cultural icons to collaborate on a ZX model, L was for LEGO. This collaboration is huge for so many reasons. Firstly, it’s LEGO’s first-ever sneaker collab. Secondly, they’ve managed to successfully color block the entire sneaker to look and feel like an actual LEGO set. Finally, the iconic plates have been incorporated into the actual design of the sneaker on the lace structure and heel along with bricks for lace locks. If you’re a LEGO fan, or sneaker collector, these are a 10/10 add to the collection. Retailers like OVERKILL and END. are raffling these now and adidas app will launch these as well. – Matt

Nike Kobe V Protro “PJ Tucker PE”
This one is a bit of a surprise in terms of a wide release, but Nike did release the DeMar DeRozan PE last week. Everyone knows by now that PJ Tucker is in his own tier when it comes to NBA player sneaker collectors. Not only does PJ love showing us super rare gems, he wears them on the court. This pair was first peeped on the internet in July and it combines Tucker’s love for fashion with his respect for Kobe into a signature Mamba sneaker. These are definitely a cop and hold for me. Head over to SNKRS app to get these. – Matt

Atlas x Nike SB Dunk High “Lost at Sea”
Atlas skate shop has teamed up with Nike SB for a Bay Area-inspired nautical themed Dunk High. This “Lost at Sea” sneaker draws design cues from the marine landscape of the shop’s hometown with pre-distressed yellow midsoles, and premium pebbled leather that’s already cracked and looks aged. The embroidered co-branded tongue is a nice twist as it removes the classic tongue tab. With Nike SB at its peak once again, these will be hard to come by and in high demand. If you can get your hands on these, they’ll be a great flip, but I’m keeping them if I hit on the nationwide store raffle, cause that pre-worn look is fire. Locals will have a chance to pick up the special packaging from the store only. – Matt

Jordan Air Cadence “Pale Ivory”
The Jordan Air Cadence is a true testament to modern craftsmanship with heritage-inspired design elements. This streamlined and sporty design is tailor-made for people who are always on the go. An ode to Michael Jordan, who’s been at the forefront of basketball since his game-winning shot brought glory to North Carolina, this new release recalls the original 1985 Air Jordan I. With a ivory colorway, the Nike Air tech is visible in the heel and provides the comfort of cushioning, while a plush collar combined with a molded foot bed can keep you satiated and comfortable all day. If you’re the sporty type, you should totally rock this. Available through SNKRS app. – Sahar

The uppers are crafted with leather and suede with rubber soles and a blue swoosh on the side. This is not a release to miss. Available via Nike SNKRS app in Asia only. – Natasha
