Rock, Stock or Flip? This week’s sneaker releases

words by: Matt Peng

Today is an important day as we welcome the Biden/Harris administration into office. It’s been a long ass four years with a Cheeto serving as POTUS so this week, we’re gonna recommend you treat yourself, and there’s no better way to do that then with some fresh kicks. This week’s Hot Cakes hit a little fresher and hotter than normal. Let’s jump right into it.

Nike SB Dunk Low “Street Hawker”

The international and skate shop release already occurred last week but these are finally hitting SNKRS app this week and you really need to set a few alarms and get a few friends to help out. A mismatch sneaker that is already in contention to runaway with “sneaker of the year” honors, the storytelling, cultural significance, materials and overall execution of these make them worth the four digit resell prices.

Release Date: January 22, 2021
Retail: $110
Resell pre-release: $665 – $1,450

Notre x Nike Dunk High “Tan” & “Blue”

If you’re from the Windy City or have ever visited Chi, you know the name Notre. A pillar in the local community, the shop has teamed up with Nike on the Dunk High silhouette for a special collaboration that symbolizes community and “resounding commitment to cultivating connections and allowing for a wider sense of ownership.” I can’t get over the shaggy suede and amazing dual-tone laces as well as the triple stitching. The tan ones are Notre exclusive and release alongside the blue ones on January 21 via notre-shop.com while a wider SNKRS release for the blue pair will take place two days later.

Release Date: January 21, 2021 (Notre), January 23, 2021 (SNKRS)
Retail: $150
Resell pre-release: $970 – $2,500 (Tan), $700 – $1,800 (Blue)

Air Jordan 5 Low “CNY”

Continuing their annual tradition of celebrating Lunar New Year, Nike, Converse and Jordan Brand have created an entire capsule collection. This week, the Air Jordan 5 Low silhouette will release with a sail exterior that tears away to reveal a unique and festive pattern underneath. Additionally, the color red accents areas like the sockliner, insole, eyelets and Jumpman logo to bring good fortune to the wearer. I love seeing the DIY culture take over sneakers to allow for individual expression so these are a hard cop. Hit up SNKRS and select retailers to pick up a pair.

Release Date: January 23, 2021
Retail: $215
Resell pre-release: $225 – $400

adidas YEEZY BOOST 700 “Sun”

It’s brick (stupid cold) in NYC right now and any avenue of relief to remind me of warmer days is welcome. Enter in Kanye’s latest YEEZY BOOST 700 colorway, “Sun.” Just like its nickname suggests, this bright new rendition of the runner offers up a yellow and orange color palette for the upper and outsole along with black and blue hits on the mid panels to create a solar effect. I’m down with these and I’ll probably buy a pack of Starbursts too while I’m at it. Head over to adidas.com/yeezy to cop and the CONFIRMED app.

Release Date: January 23, 2021
Retail: $240
Resell pre-release: $400 – $950
