Rock, Stock or Flip? This week’s sneaker releases

With the holiday season fast approaching, brands are gearing up for some of the hottest sneaker releases of the year. If you’ve been saving that bread, some of this week’s releases might just spark some interest and make a run for your pockets. I personally love that sneakers have become works of art and you’ll see what I mean in this week’s Hot Cakes. Let’s jump right into it.

MoMA x Vans Authentic “Jackson Pollock”

If you haven’t heard already, MoMA has partnered with Vans for select artist series sneakers featuring works that are prominently displayed in their collection. The second collection from the duo’s series releases today and one of my favorite artists, Jackson Pollock, is receiving an Authentic that’s inspired by his One: Number 31, 1950 artwork. These are a definite cop for me and will be on feet every time I visit a museum moving forward. Head over to Vans stores, MoMA Design Stores and nordstrom.com to purchase. It arrives alongside matching apparel.

Release Date: November 11, 2020 (Today)
Retail: $85
Resell pre-release: N/A

Nike Air Max 1 “Strawberry Lemonade”

After the “Limeade” version released in September, Nike’s Air Max 1 “Strawberry Lemonade” will make its first appearance since 2006’s Powerwall version. The mix of pinks along the upper and mudguard coupled with the yellow laces make these a beautiful pair to stock until next summer. Strawberry graphics on the tongue as well as lemon and strawberries on the insole finish off the sweet detailing. Hit up SNKRS app and select retailers to grab a pair for yourself.

Release Date: November 12, 2020
Retail: $140
Resell pre-release: $160 – $500

sacai x Nike VaporWaffle “Black/White” & “Royal Fuchsia”

Designer Chitose Abe of sacai continues to reinvent running silhouettes – she did it with the LDWaffle and now she’s doing it again with the Nike VaporWaffle. Doubling down on the chunky sneaker trend, these combine the DNA from the Pegasus and Vaporfly technology for the ultimate statement sneaker. I sure as hell won’t be running in these but I know they’ll be comfortable with that technology incorporated. Cop either the “Black/White” and/or “Royal Fuchsia” via SNKRS or select retailer raffles.

Release Date: November 13, 2020
Retail: $180
Resell pre-release: $385 – $585 (Black), $440 – $520 (Fuchsia)

Air Jordan 5 “What The”

It’s hard to believe that the Air Jordan 5 didn’t receive the “What The” treatment before this year but then again, Jordan Brand was probably saving it for the sneaker’s 30th anniversary. Channeling design and color cues from the “Tokyo,” “Raging Bull,” Green Bean,” Army Olive,” “Quai 54” and “Shanghai” models, these are for the ultimate AJ5 fan and works of art. Hit up SNKRS to cop a pair.

Release Date: November 12, 2020
Retail: $220
Resell pre-release: $240 – $300

BAPE x UNDEFEATED x adidas Originals ZX 8000

Triple collaborations can hit or miss because of all the creative minds involved but BAPE, UNDEFEATED and adidas Originals nailed these two ZX 8000 models for adidas’ A-ZX series where “B is for BAPE.” While the “Celtic Green” colorway is exclusive to UNDEFEATED and BAPE stores, I’ve always been a fan of black and I love the way the BAPE CAMO pops on the toe box and side paneling for that pair. These are a must cop.

Release Date: November 14, 2020
Retail: $140
Resell pre-release: $400 – $1,000 (Black), $800 – $1,000 (Green)

Air Jordan 1 High OG CO.JP “Midnight Navy”

Just like the “Metallic Silver” AJ1 that retroed earlier this year, the “Midnight Navy” colorway that was once a Japanese-exclusive will make a reappearance after 19 years. The insoles have “CO.JP” written alongside a Jumpman logo to remind you of the sneaker’s history while circular laces venture away from the normally flat laces. I’m buying multiple pairs of these, it’s one of the most fire all-season colorways of the AJ1. SNKRS app and select retailers will carry them.

Release Date: November 14, 2020
Retail: $170
Resell pre-release: $230 – $370
