The news has been bleak. Coronavirus cases spiking. Unarmed Black men and women being killed. Donald Trump, um just being Donald Trump. And a plethora of other issues. Although these issues have been prevalent and loud in this country for centuries, people are now beginning to not ignore it. 

Speaking of not ignoring it, the LGBTQ community had a big win this week. The Supreme Court made it illegal for employers to fire employees based on their sexual orientation. Yes, as shocking as this is: it was legal in more than 25 states. 

Previously Title VII of the CRA banned employment discrimination based on “race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.” The Supreme Court has now ruled that sex also includes gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender workers.

8 months ago, we were outside of the Supreme Court demanding workplace protections for LGBTQ people. Today, we celebrate this landmark victory knowing that the fight continues.

People all over the nation took to the streets in celebration. Although more work has to be done to gain full equality, this is a step in the right direction. 

Let this teach us to keep speaking out, and demanding change!
