You know how some people open their social media apps once every ten seconds? Well at some point during the pandemic, this addictive habit switched from social platforms to email for me. I probably spend more than half my day on email. This is a direct result from blurry work life balances while being confined to my home office and the professional yet social aspects I’m nostalgic for.
As a journalist, the actual work (writing) can be pretty independent but the collaboration of ideas or seeing industry friends at fashion and grooming events was always a highlight of the work week. I enjoyed seeing fellow journalists and conversing over the latest TikTok grooming hack or streetwear fad. Safe to say, I miss it. And every click on my Gmail app or Slack, is a longing to feel connected again.
On the other hand, I realize how fortunate I am to have a job, and in turn find myself triple checking that I am on top of these. It really isn’t the healthiest habit, so if like me, you open your email way to often, it’s time to follow our burnout prevention guide to restore your sanity. You know the drill: take a break, log-off and actually log-off, take a walk, eat a well balanced diet, and set timers on days you find yourself slipping.
