Toshio Saeki has been called the “Godfather of Japanese Erotica” and chances are you’ve probably seen his work at galleries or somewhere online if you’re into the genre and art in general. This week, Supreme is finally releasing a collaborative capsule collection that consists of a Work Jacket, Hooded Sweatshirt and Work Pants that the duo started to work on before the artist’s passing in 2019.
Each apparel piece features selected works from the artist displayed on patches and embroidered on. Saeki’s artwork blended a variety of inspiration that included Japanese folklore, Shinto spirits, gore, mischief, violence and humor. He often translated his own subconscious memories, dreams and supernatural visions into his art as well and was fond of samurai-period films, Yazuka B-movies and Western art and comics. You can see all these elements throughout the specific graphics that were chosen for this collaboration. This collection will definitely be an ode to a legend that has passed.
Supreme stores in the U.S. and Europe will release the collection tomorrow, November 5 before Japan drops the capsule on November 7. You can also try your luck via supremenewyork.com.
