The galaxy’s most eccentric team is back! It’s been 5 years since we’ve seen the Guardians of the Galaxy on their own, and I can’t think of a better time to bring them back before their third movie next year. The last time we saw the Guardians was when they were fighting battles alongside Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth) in Thor: Love and Thunder. We haven’t kept up much with them since then, but it looks like they are still on the lookout for Gamora (Zoe Saldaña)… and Kevin Bacon?
We are well aware that Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) is a huge fan of the original Footloose (I don’t even think he knows that they attempted a remake — which is for his own good) and still believes it’s still one of Earth’s greatest movies of all-time. All this considered, it’s reasonable to assume that he talks nonstop about Kevin Bacon.
Since learning that Gamora has been “resurrected” and is not only on the run, but doesn’t have any feelings for him, Star-Lord hasn’t been in the best headspace. Nothing puts a damper on team morale like a broken heart, so it looks like Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Drax (Dave Bautista) have taken it upon themselves to pull a small kidnapping heist to liven up his spirits and bring him some Earth-style holiday joy.
This holiday special might be buttering us up for the inevitable tears that we’ll end up shedding in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Director James Gunn has confirmed that this will be the last we see of the Guardians. It’s unclear if that means that the upcoming movie will be the last we see of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, or if this is the last we see of this group forever in the MCU.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will release exclusively on Disney+ on November 25, 2022 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to release in theaters on May 5, 2023.
We don’t know much about the last appearance of the Guardians — other than that it’s the last appearance of the Guardians.
