It’s no surprise that the tourism industry has received a massive hit during the Coronavirus pandemic. No one is ready to risk traveling – both for financial and health reasons. As a way to help this industry, Donald Trump has suggested giving Americans a tax credit toward a vacation to boost the economy.
The “Explore America” Tax Credit would give up to $4,000 to each American, to spend at hotels, theme parks, restaurants and other travel-related activities. The credit could be used up until the end of 2021.
The tourism industry is quite excited at the mention as they are eager to get back to business. Prior to the pandemic, their industry alone contributed $2.6 trillion to the economy, supplying more than 15 million jobs.
Currently the tax credit is just an idea that was brought up at a White House Roundtable last month. In order for it to be real, it must be approved by Congress.
Personally, I’m shocked this was Donald’s idea. Giving money to all Americans doesn’t sound like his cup of tea. But I guess it’s all part of his plan to save the economy, without caring about health risks.
Although I’d be thrilled to receive this stipend, I do not plan to travel until there’s a vaccine.
